Lempi’s primary role is working as a school dog at Erkko Comprehensive School, where she brings joy and comfort to students. As soon as she was old enough to leave her breeder, Lempi visited her future classroom for the first time, and ever since then she has always received a warm and enthusiastic welcome. At school, Lempi interacts with both lower and upper secondary students.
For approximately one year, Lempi trained specifically for her future role as a school dog through a dedicated educational program and also participated in various basic training courses. In December 2025, she successfully passed the Animal-Assisted Intervention Aptitude Test at Salpaus in Asikkala.
Lempi has actively attended dog show handling classes, obedience training, and enrichment activities. She has been taught to learn new skills through shaping and offering behaviours, and she thoroughly enjoys thinking for herself and proposing new behaviours during training sessions.
Her dog show career officially began in the junior classes in spring 2026. Lempi quickly earned her Junior Champion title and also completed the required adult championship certificates. The goal for next year is to obtain her final certificate and complete her championship title. At the moment, Lempi does not have a passport, so her show career is currently limited to events within Finland.
Beyond her official activities, the family’s Lagotto Romagnolo has helped turn Lempi into quite the water enthusiast and watchdog. During the summer, one of her favourite pastimes is swimming in lakes, while in everyday life she takes her role as guardian of the house very seriously. Forest adventures and exploring every ditch and muddy corner she can find (despite the inevitable bath afterwards) are also among her favourite activities.
Lempi is also a devoted big sister to our youngest dog, Meri. The two are inseparable and do everything together, preferably at the exact same time. From drinking from the water bowl to racing around the garden, they are always side by side. Their favourite activity is undoubtedly their wild poodle zoomies around the yard.
Personality:
Lempi is a kind, cheerful, social, and active young dog. At every dog show she has attended, judges have commented on her open and friendly temperament. She greets new people happily, always with a wagging tail and a positive attitude.
Lempi is highly food-motivated and learns new things eagerly when treats are involved. She also enjoys toys, although her interest in them tends to fade fairly quickly. When playing with other dogs, however, tug games are among her absolute favourites.
Lempi is accustomed to meeting a wide variety of people with different personalities and behaviours, and she approaches everyone with confidence and curiosity. She does not shy away from people and has a naturally calm and balanced presence in everyday life. True to her poodle nature, she is always eager to join in and would never willingly miss out on any activity. She is comfortable around loud noises, unfamiliar surfaces, and new environments, making her an easy companion to take almost anywhere.
When meeting unfamiliar dogs, Lempi is exceptionally polite and humble. Her first priority is to communicate that she means no harm and would very much like to be everyone’s friend. After the initial introductions, she is usually the one inviting her new acquaintance to play, whether that means wrestling, chasing games, or energetic zoomies. As a young dog, she is still somewhat soft in character, and her confidence will likely continue to develop with maturity and life experience.
As a young puppy, Lempi participated in the SmartDog-puppy Cognition Test. The results showed that she reads human body language exceptionally well and approached all parts of the test with confidence and curiosity. These qualities make her naturally well suited for close work with people. At one year of age, she also successfully passed the behavior suitability assessment, which evaluates a dog’s aptitude for animal-assisted work.
A video of her behavior assessment can be found on our Instagram account, @saraspoodles.
